What is Variable Data Printing?

Variable data printing (VDP), also referred to as variable information printing, personalized printing or one-to-one marketing, is a form of digital printing that allows for various levels of personalization in a printed piece. Utilizing specialized software, digital printing devices and computer databases, VDP creates a unique product for a targeted audience.

There are various forms of variable data printing, ranging from simple salutations and addressing to the fully variable changing of text and graphics. Each form works by first determining which elements of the piece will remain static and those which will be variable, then employing database lists and versioning to produce the final product.

Used primarily for direct marketing, CRM, addressing, invoicing and advertising variable data printing is an extremely valuable tool for increasing return on investment and decreasing response times.
